How many times have you been away from home with your laptop or notebook and that little icon on the bottom right hand corner of your screen starts to make the dreaded yield sign? Its happened to me on more than one occasion, and there have also been times that I’ve lost valuable work that I had been doing on the computer. After loosing some valuable study materials a few years ago, I finally decided to go out and invest in buying a couple extra power adapters. Life has been relatively stress free since I got more than one laptop power chord.
I was due to buy another laptop cord in the first place, as I hadn’t taken care of the store bought one that came with my laptop. I had a habit of tying up the cord really tight and I must have kinked the power cord one too many times. It would work, but only when I had the cord pulled in a particular direction. At first I just bumped the cord when I saw that my computer wasn’t receiving any juice. Later on it got to the point where I would have to put heavy books on the cord to hold it in place, just so.
A half year ago, one of my buddies laid into me about the risk I was taking with my computer. He said that I could possibly cause a power surge and then my computer would be fried. He then suggested that I buy a few laptop cords for a couple of reasons, and they made a lot of sense to me.
First off, he reminded me that I don’t always take my cord with me when I went to use my computer at the cafe. He also said that both of my power cords for laptop would last longer because neither of them would be receiving constant wear and tear.
So I went online and bought 3 cords. One for home, one for my computer bag, and one power cord for laptop that I keep at work.
I can’t tell you how much of a difference this has made to me over the past couple months. Between lugging my laptop to school, to work, and then to home again, I’m always powered up and it feels refreshing. Sure, I could probably due to remember to hit that magic ’save’ button a little more frequently than I do, but I haven’t come close to loosing any projects due to faulty power supply or a kinked laptop power cord.
So if any of you out there are able to learn from other people’s mistakes, take a tip from me and get yourself a few laptop power supplies. You will feel stress-free, and be glad you did it! I have a few laptop power chords that have lasted several years with no signs of wear.
